title: Updating Octarine
description: How Octarine keeps itself up to date
---

Octarine checks for new releases automatically and lets you install a supported update from inside the app.

## Automatic Update Checks

Octarine checks shortly after launch, then every 24 hours while the app is active. It does not download or install an update until you choose to do so.

The following installations support in-app updates:

- Mac `.dmg`
- Windows `.msi`
- Linux `.AppImage`

When an update is available, you'll see a small **Update Available** button in the breadcrumb at the top-right of the app. Click it to download and install the update. Octarine relaunches when installation finishes.

> On Windows, you might see the standard "repair/upgrade" installation prompt during the update process.

Linux DEB, RPM, and Arch packages do not support the in-app installer. Update them through your package manager, or manually download the latest package from the [releases page](https://octarine.app/releases).

## How to check for updates

Octarine checks for updates every 24 hours automatically. To check manually:

1. Open the Command Palette (`Cmd/Ctrl + K`)
2. Type and select **Check for updates**

Alternatively, click the **Check for updates** option in the Help menu (the `?` icon in the bottom-right corner).

## How to check your current version

To see which version of Octarine you're running:

1. Open the Command Palette (`Cmd/Ctrl + K`)
2. Type and select **About Octarine**

## Rolling back an update

Rolling back to a previous version isn't currently supported. If you encounter issues with a new update, please report it on the [Feedback Tracker](https://github.com/rajatkulkarni95/octarine-feedback/issues) so it can be addressed.
