Customize the workspace, appearance, editor, capture, sharing, and sync

Open Settings from the More menu or the Command Bar. The redesigned page begins with the current workspace and groups the rest into General, Writing & Capture, Workspace & Sync, and Account & Help.

Workspace

Tap the workspace row at the top to change its display name or identifying color. To switch workspaces, tap the workspace name in the More menu or run Switch Workspace from the Command Bar.

General

Appearance

Choose separate Light and Dark themes; Octarine follows the iPhone's current appearance. Each picker is searchable and previews its themes.

You can also choose the interface font and interface font size. These change lists, navigation, settings, and sheets—not note text. Editor typography has its own controls.

Date & Time

Set the display date format with date-fns tokens and check the live preview. For example, EEEE, MMMM d displays a value such as Wednesday, April 15.

Choose which weekday starts the calendar. Daily Desk and weekly note filenames follow this setting. You can also enable 24-hour time throughout the app.

Writing & Capture

Editor

Editor typography includes font, font size, line height, and letter spacing. Writing controls include Autocorrect, Spellcheck, and striking through completed tasks.

Use Bubble menu to customize the toolbar above the keyboard. Reorder controls, hide optional ones, add them back, preview the result, or reset it. The block picker and slash commands are always retained.

Turn on Navigation and selection bar for precise cursor arrows and a selection mode above the keyboard.

Dictation

Enable on-device Whisper dictation, choose a Tiny, Base, or Small model, download or remove it, and select a language or Auto Detect. Larger models take more space but can improve transcription.

Inbox

Manage the Capture Tags used by Quick Capture and the share extension. You can keep up to five, and Octarine normalizes new tags to lowercase kebab-case. Layout and sorting remain in the Inbox page's own settings sheet.

AI

Connect an API provider and choose the text model used for AI creation, selection rewrites, and per-note Insights. API keys are validated before they are saved securely on the device. See AI Writing and Insights.

Workspace & Sync

Files

Choose the default folder for the global New Note action. The picker includes the workspace root and all note folders. A note created from within Library still uses the folder currently open.

Sharing

Configure the display name and author visibility used on public notes, the default expiration and property visibility, and the themes and font for shared pages. See Share a Note.

Git Sync

Git Sync appears only for an on-device workspace that is a Git repository with a remote. It contains Pull, Sync Now, Auto Sync, credentials, folder sync coverage, and conflict controls. See Git Sync.

Account & Help

Manage License

View the licensed email or deactivate the device. Deactivation signs you out but does not delete notes. You will need the license key to activate this installation again.

About Octarine

View the app version and commit, send feedback, or join the Octarine Discord community. Read the Manual returns to this documentation.

Delete Workspace

Delete Workspace is at the bottom of Settings. It permanently deletes the workspace folder and everything inside it from the selected storage location.

The confirmation page requires you to type the workspace display name exactly before the delete button is enabled. Back up anything important first; this cannot be undone in Octarine.
