References

References show where the current note appears elsewhere in your workspace. Octarine separates deliberate wikilinks from plain-text mentions, so you can follow known connections and find references you have not linked yet.

Opening References

Open a note, then use any of these methods:

• Click the references count below the editor.
• Run View References from the Command Bar.
• Press Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + R.

The References sheet opens with a preview of every matching passage. Click a source note to open it.

Linked References

The Linked tab contains notes that point to the current note with a wikilink. For example, [[Projects/Launch]] appears as a linked reference on the Launch note.

Each result groups all matching passages from the same source note. The count beside the source shows how many references it contains.

Mentions

The Mentions tab finds plain text that matches the current note's title but is not already a wikilink. This is useful for discovering connections that were written before the note existed or were never linked deliberately.

Click Link beside a mention to turn that occurrence into a wikilink. Octarine updates the source Markdown file, and the result moves from Mentions to Linked.

Review the surrounding preview before converting a mention. A matching phrase can refer to something other than the current note.

Sorting And Filtering

Sort references by:

• Most recent or oldest source note
• Most references
• Source name from A-Z or Z-A

Use Filters to narrow the list by:

• Source note — include or exclude Notes, Daily Desk, Templates, or Inbox
• Note type — include or exclude one or more note types, including notes without a type
• Modified — today, the last 7 days, or the last 30 days
• Reference in — body, frontmatter, or either location

Filters apply to both the Linked and Mentions tabs. Use Clear to remove every active filter.
