Multiple Windows

Octarine supports multiple desktop windows in addition to tabs and split panes. Use a separate window when you want a note on another display, need two workspaces visible at once, or want a document to stay independent from the main layout.

Opening a Note in a New Window

Use any of these methods while a note is open:

• Open the note menu and select Open Note in New Window
• Right-click its tab or file-tree entry and select Open Note in New Window
• Run Open Note in New Window from the Command Bar
• Use Cmd + Option + O on macOS, Ctrl + Shift + U on Windows, or Ctrl + Alt + O on Linux

The new window edits the same Markdown file. Changes are synchronized with other Octarine windows displaying that note.

Opening a Workspace in a New Window

Open the Command Bar, run Open Workspace in New Window, and choose a workspace. You can also use the app's Window menu.

Octarine keeps one full window for each workspace:

• If the workspace is not open, Octarine creates a new window.
• If it is already open elsewhere, Octarine brings that window to the front.
• Switch Workspace changes the current window only when the target workspace does not already have a window.

Windows or Split Panes?

Use split panes when documents belong to the same layout and should share one window. Use multiple windows when you need operating-system window management, separate displays, or two workspaces visible at the same time.

Each window remembers its own sidebar state. Workspace content and settings remain shared.
