Pinning Items
Keep frequently used workspace items in a collapsible sidebar section
Pin frequently used notes, folders, and Views to keep them near the top of the workspace sidebar.
Pinned items now appear in a dedicated, collapsible Pinned section. They do not replace the normal Notes, Daily Desk, or Views trees, and there is no separate pinned-tree toggle.
Individual notes can be pinned on any license. Pinning folders and Views requires an active Pro or trial license.
Pin an Item
Notes
Right-click a normal workspace note and choose Pin Note. You can also open the note and run Pin from the Command Bar or the note actions menu.
A pinned note stores pinned: true in its YAML frontmatter. The file tree does not offer Pin Note for Daily Desk notes, Templates, or Inbox captures.
Folders
Right-click a folder and choose Pin Folder. A pinned folder appears as an expandable tree in the Pinned section, so you can reach any of its descendants without pinning each note.
Folder pinning is a shortcut to the real folder, not a copy. Renaming, moving, or deleting content from the pinned tree changes the original workspace item.
Views
Right-click a View in the Views tree and choose Pin view. Pinned Views appear above pinned folders and notes and keep their configured icon and color.
Use the Pinned Section
Choose the Pinned heading to collapse or expand the section. Octarine remembers that state for the workspace.
- Select a pinned note or View to open it.
- Expand a pinned folder to browse its descendants.
- Right-click an item for the same file and folder actions available in its normal tree.
- Right-click a pinned View to open it in a new tab or unpin it.
Pinned folders appear before individually pinned notes. Files and folders follow the workspace's current file sorting method; pinned Views follow their order in the Views tree. The Pinned section is not a separate manually reordered list.
You can drop a note or folder from the normal file tree onto a pinned folder. This moves the original item into that folder. Dropping external Markdown files imports them into the target folder.
Unpin an Item
Right-click an item in either the Pinned section or its normal tree and choose Unpin Note, Unpin Folder, or Unpin view. For the focused note, you can also run Unpin from the Command Bar or note actions menu.
Unpinning removes only the shortcut. It does not delete or move the note, folder, or View.
