Media Stacks group images and videos into one scrollable gallery inside a note.

Media Stacks require an active Octarine Pro or trial license.

Create A Media Stack

Type /media stack in the editor and select Media Stack to insert an empty stack.

Use Add media below the stack to:

  • Select one or more images or videos already stored in the workspace.
  • Import one or more images or videos from your device.

You can also drag standalone media from the current note, attachments from the Attachments sidebar, or image and video files from your computer onto the stack. External drag-and-drop supports files up to 25 MB each. Larger files must be imported with the file picker.

A stack spans the editor width and shows three cropped cover thumbnails at a time. Additional items continue horizontally without shrinking the visible tiles.

Scroll the row to browse more items, or click a thumbnail to open the full image or video in a fullscreen carousel. Use the previous and next buttons, the position dots, or the left and right arrow keys to move through the carousel.

Fullscreen videos include play and pause, seeking, volume, and playback-speed controls. The fullscreen view shows the complete uncropped media.

Arrange And Resize The Stack

Use the controls below the stack to:

  • Add more media.
  • Open Reorder media, then drag items into a new order.
  • Choose a Long, Medium, or Small stack height from the actions menu.
  • Remove an individual item from the stack.
  • Choose Unstack to turn the gallery back into separate media blocks.
  • Choose Remove Stack to remove the complete gallery after confirmation.

Removing an item or a stack removes its reference from the note. It does not delete the attachment file from .attachments.

Markdown Storage

Octarine stores a Media Stack as ordinary image or video references between HTML comment markers. The selected height is stored in the opening marker when it is Long or Small; Medium is the default.

The underlying references remain inspectable and editable in another Markdown app, even if that app does not render Octarine's gallery layout.
