Meta Sidebar
Inspect note information, properties, and related notes.
The Meta Sidebar opens on the right side of Octarine and follows the note or Inbox capture in the focused pane.
Open it with the right-sidebar button in the top-right breadcrumb, or press Cmd/Ctrl + /. The sidebar remembers the last tab you used.
Note Info
The Note Info tab shows read-only information about the current item:
- Created and last-updated times
- Word, character, and line counts
- Estimated reading time
- Notes, media, and external files linked from the current note
When text is selected, the statistics show the selection alongside the total for the document.
Backlinks and plain-text mentions are no longer shown in this tab. Use References to see which notes point to the current note.
Properties
The Properties tab is where you add and edit YAML frontmatter for the current note. You can apply a note type, add existing workspace properties, create new definitions, reorder rows, generate suggestions with AI, and use the actions menu to copy or manage the current properties.
Properties require a Pro License. See Properties for property types, frontmatter examples, and workspace-level management.
Inbox captures also expose a Properties tab, but Octarine hides the lifecycle fields it manages itself.
Related Notes
The Related Notes tab uses the local embedding index to suggest notes with similar meaning. It requires a Pro License and is unavailable for Inbox captures.
You can open a suggestion, preview it, or save it as a deliberate relationship in the current note's oct.related frontmatter. See Related Notes for setup and indexing details.
Outline
The document outline now lives inside the editor rather than in the Meta Sidebar. Use the in-editor outline control or the Table of Contents command to jump between headings. See Outline Navigation.
