Integrations
Connect Linear, GitHub, Notion, or any MCP server so Ask Octarine can answer from tools outside your workspace.
Integrations let Ask Octarine read from services outside your notes. Connect a service once, then ask questions like "Which of my Linear issues are still in progress?" or "Summarize the open pull requests on the website repo" alongside your workspace context.
Integrations use the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Octarine connects to remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP.
Integrations require a Pro License.
Adding an Integration
Open Settings -> Integrations and switch to Browse integrations. Octarine includes presets for:
| Service | Access | Authentication |
|---|---|---|
| Linear | Read-only issues, projects, and cycles | Browser sign-in (OAuth) |
| GitHub | Read-only repositories, issues, and pull requests | Personal access token |
| Notion | Search and read pages and databases | Browser sign-in (OAuth) |
| Custom MCP server | Whatever the server exposes | Browser OAuth, bearer token, or none |
Choose Add next to a service, review the connection details, then choose Save & connect.
- Browser OAuth opens the service's sign-in page. Octarine waits for you to finish signing in, then connects.
- Bearer token stores the token you paste. For GitHub, use the Create token link on the integration page to create a personal access token first.
- No authentication connects directly to servers that do not require credentials.
For a custom server, enter a name, the server URL, the authentication type, and any extra headers, one Name: Value per line.
Once connected, expand Available tools to see what the server provides.
Managing Connections
Your connections lists every integration on this device. Each row shows Connected, or Needs attention when Octarine can no longer reach the server or the sign-in has expired. Choose Edit to reconnect, change the URL or headers, or remove the integration.
When editing a saved integration, leave the token or headers blank to keep the stored values. Changing the URL or authentication type clears the old credentials. Stored secrets are never displayed.
Integrations are configured once per device and are available in every workspace. Credentials are kept in a file in Octarine's app data folder that only your user account can read; they are not stored in your workspace or synced with it.
Using Integrations in Ask Octarine
Connected integrations appear under Sources in the Ask Octarine prompt box. Open it to turn individual sources on or off for the current workspace, or choose Manage integrations... to jump to settings. Disconnected sources show a warning and cannot be enabled until you reconnect them.
Ask Octarine can call tools from any enabled source when your question needs them. To point it at a specific service, type @ and pick the integration from the Sources group at the top of the menu. A mentioned source is used for that message even if you did not name the service in your prompt.
Tool calls appear in the answer's steps with the service's logo. When an answer refers to Linear issues, GitHub pull requests or issues, or Notion pages, Octarine shows them as clickable rows instead of a Markdown table:
- Linear issues are grouped by status, with priority, labels, and assignee.
- GitHub pull requests and issues show their state, labels, and diff size.
- Notion pages and databases link straight to the page.
Privacy
- Integration results are sent to your selected AI provider as part of the conversation, like note content.
- Ask Octarine treats content returned by an integration as reference data, not instructions.
- The Linear and GitHub presets use read-only endpoints. A custom server can expose tools that change data, so only connect servers you trust.
- Ask Octarine is instructed to fetch data by default and not to send note contents or secrets to an integration unless you ask it to.
